Conn Raney Interview

Hi guys,

I’m sure you been waiting for this interview so long, but here it is. What a nice present for Christmas no?

Conn Raney send me this lovely interview and i’m so happy to share it with you. He writes from his enormous heart about family and identity. His songs, like Show up and Simple Man shows himself to be a perfect musician. He also possesses this super creativity and voice which will have you singing along louder than you ever have before.

Please enjoy

Andreea: When and why did you start playing?

Conn Raney: Music has always been an outlet for me. I have always been an avid listener and began writing my own music in college when I met a friend who made beats. Writing music is a therapeutic outlet for me to be able to express myself and tell my story.

Andreea: Which instruments do you play?

Conn Raney: I have learned to play a little bit of piano by myself but I wouldn’t consider myself a musician.

Andreea: What was the first tune(s) you learned?

Conn Raney: The first thing I ever learned on Piano is the intro to “Song for Mama” by Boyz 2 Men.

Andreea: What are the five things you can’t live without?

Conn Raney: 1) Music 2) Sports 3) Mexican Food 4) Thai Food 5) My phone

Andreea: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

Conn Raney: “Life begins where your comfort zone ends.” I saw that quote a few years ago and it changed my life. I began to stretch myself artistically through dance classes, vocal lessons, playing instruments, etc.

Andreea: Which famous musicians do you admire?

Conn Raney: Why? I have looked up to Aloe Blacc for a long time because of his story. He and I both started in hip-hop and have shifted to singing. He also is someone that promotes positivity and he seems to be a good dude….this is rare in the music industry.

Andreea: Ten years from now you will be….

Conn Raney: Developing the next generation of artists and raising children of my own.

Andreea: If I was to turn on your iPod right now, what five artists/songs would I see on your recently played list?

Conn Raney: 1) Jon Bellion 2) Imagine Dragons 3) Quinn XCII 4) Tech-N9ne 5) J. Cole

Andreea: Do you ever get nervous?

Conn Raney: All the time. I recently performed my first show where I played piano live and my nerves were alive and active. Being nervous is a part of being a performer.

Andreea: What is your favourite colour of socks to wear?

Conn Raney: Black

Andreea: What’s your favourite place to eat?

Conn Raney: Coconut Thai Restaurant in Tarzana, CA 12.

Andreea: Do you like dogs or cats?

Conn Raney: I love dogs but I’m allergic to them……

Andreea: What’s your bad quality?

Conn Raney: I can be stubborn as F***

Andreea: What is the weirdest thing you ever did?

Conn Raney: I’m not sure what the weirdest thing is that I’ve ever done but one of the weirdest experiences I’ve ever had was when my college football team took a trip to Seattle, Washington.

It started with a flight to San Francisco. While waiting at the gate, I see a group of my teammates talking and looking in the same direction. They were all in shock that the legendary Ron Jeremy was on our flight. Let the fun of the trip begin. Then, after our game we get back to the hotel and our room keys aren’t working so my roommate and I head back down to the lobby. One floor down a girl gets on the elevator and starts talking to me.

Long story short I end up saying “no thanks” to an offer to go hang out with her and found out later that a teammate ended up chatting with her. She told him she had friends that were in Seattle on pleasure but she was there on business…..he asks “oh, what business are you in?” Her reply: “I’m in the business of pleasuring people.” No business transactions were made and my teammate also said “no thanks.”

The following day we take a flight to San Francisco and from there back to LA. When we landed in San Francisco, we discover that Chuck Liddell’s sister is on our flight and he is at the gate waiting with her. This would be one of the only men that could legitimately scare an entire college football team. Fortunately he was a super cool dude and signed some autographs.

Andreea: If you could be a billionaire for a day, what would you do?

Conn Raney: So many things come to mind….I read an article about Jay-Z supplying running water to a village in Africa and have always thought that if I had money I would do something like that. I would also love to fund anti human trafficking programs like www.projectchildsave.org as well as mental health services for military veterans. I could spend an entire year coming up with ideas for how to spend a billion dollars to make a lasting impact on the world!

Hope you enjoy it and don’t forget after the Holidays i have 2 more amazing interviews x

Lot’s a love,

Andreea x
