Hope you had a great and fun Easter break. I myself was away from London, enjoying a bit of sun in Nice and Monte-Carlo, as well a few days in New York.
Back in New York, I was fortunate to have a live interview with Alex Martin. We chat about his sound, musical inspirations, and the art of songwriting. Alex is a talented singer-songwriter whose debut https://open.spotify.com/album/1ktLePO982MPGcnyy5Lw9k was released in February 2018.
Let’s see what he had to say!
Andreea: How everything started? Alex: I start playing music out on the streets and trains in LA and NY City. I started playing cause my family played and they kind of brought me into it.
Andreea: Which instruments do you play? Alex: Guitar, Saxofon, Piano, Ukelele
Andreea: What was the first tune(s) you learned?
Alex: The Beatles – Eight Days A Week
Andreea: What are the five things you can’t live without? Alex: Five things I can’t live without my car, my guitar, my razor, steak tacos, and my fans.
Andreea: What’s your motto or the advice you live by? Alex: My motto is: To do is to dare. Just to do something is a statement in its own right.
Andreea: Which famous musicians do you admire? Why? Alex: BOB MARLEY. He was a black and white musician, and people were asking him do you make music for white or black people?
He said like what do you mean? I make music for unity, for peace. I really agree with that, it really hit me.
Andreea: Ten years from now you will be…. Alex: Sitting on my property in the middle of the woods.
Andreea: Can you remember the first time you wrote a song?
Alex: 13 years old – ‘When I leave’. It meant a lot to me.
Andreea: Do you ever get nervous? Alex: I don’t get nervous I get excited. If I get too excited I get nervous cause I might mess it up
Andreea: What kind of things inspire you to write? Alex: I wanna sing what I want to sing, I wanna say what I want to say, no boundaries, no constriction of what people think.
Andreea: What’s your bad quality? Alex: I talk too much sometimes
Andreea: How much do you practice singing/playing instruments a week? Alex: 24/7. My guitar is everywhere with me. It’s my baby.
Andreea: What’s next? Alex: I’m working with the Yankees, I have a lot of shows this year: I will be performing at the Leigh Valley Yankee Club, Easton, Pennsylvania, May 7, as well on June 30, August 1 in Hostos, August 16 in Scranton, October 27 Argyle, November 3 Albany, November 10,15, 16 in Florida.
Andreea: Do you want to do a tour in Europe? Alex: If you let me! Haha. I would like that, yeah, very much.
