Interview with Jesse Labelle

Hi beautiful people,

Welcome back to another amazing interview with one of your favorite artist. This time I had the pleasure of talking with Jesse Labelle, that was recently given the honor of inducting Class of 2018 Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame member Joe Melson with a rendition of the Roy Orbison/Melson classic, “Crying”.

Jesse is a Canadian-born Pop-Country singer-songwriter, that started his career in 2008 – 2010 with his first album ”Perfect Accident”. I personally love his song ”Heartbreak Coverup”, gets me in the feels all the time I listen to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdE5B5ZISOM

Let’s see what Jesse had to say!

Andreea: When and why did you start playing?
Jesse: I started playing the piano when I was 8. My grandmother who was also a singer had a grand piano in storage and my family decided to move it into our house. About 3 months into lessons, my teacher who also taught guitar brought one over as she has a guitar lesson to teach after my piano lesson that day. I asked what was in the case and from the minute she opened it I never looked back.
Andreea: Which instruments do you play?
Jesse: I play guitar primarily. Because of this I also play bass, a little mandolin, and some banjo. I dabble in piano and drums, but the guitar is my main instrument.
Andreea: What was the first tune(s) you learned?
Jesse: If my memory serves me right it was a Christmas song, I think it was “Jingle Bells”
Andreea: What are the five things you can’t live without?
Jesse: My family, my health, music, fitness, and good food.
Andreea:  What’s your motto or the advice you live by?
Jesse: Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. You never know when you might not get another.
Andreea: Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?
Jesse: Chet Atkins, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, The Beatles…so many of the great songwriters and guitar players of our generation have formed who I am as a musician and writer. The list is much longer but I will always look up to these heroes of mine.
Andreea: Ten years from now you will be….
Jesse: On tour and making records.
Andreea:  If I was to turn on your iPod right now, what five artists/songs would I see on your recently played list?
Jesse: Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley, Johnny Cash, The Beatles
Andreea:  Do you ever get nervous?
Jesse: Absolutely. When you stop getting nervous you stop feeling what it feels like to be alive.
Andreea: What is your favorite color of socks to wear?
Jesse: I’m wearing a pair of bright orange camo socks right now and they’re obnoxious as heck..and I absolutely love them. 🙂
Andreea:  What’s your favorite place to eat?
Jesse: Butcher & Bee in East Nashville.
Andreea: Do you like dogs or cats?
Jesse: Dogs, 100%.
Andreea: What’s your bad quality?
Jesse: I’m usually up a lot later than I should be.
Andreea: What is the weirdest thing you ever did?
Jesse: When I was a kid I went out into the back garden of my childhood home and took hedge trimmers to the entire garden. It makes absolutely no sense…and I was punished fiercely for it. To this day I have no reason why I’d ever have done such a thing.
Andreea: If you could be a billionaire for a day, what would you do?
Jesse: I’d put together a fund to build more schools in Africa where I’ve volunteered and built in the past. Make sure more children get the chance to choose to live their dreams.
Thank you, Jesse, for your answers and I wish you luck with the tour x

Stay tuned for another amazing interview coming soon!

Love, Andreea
