Interview with Kaiak

Hi folks! Hope you enjoyed your summer and getting ready for fall (i know I’m getting ready in London)
.

Today I have a brand new interview for you and I’m sure that you will love it. I’m pleased to do this new Q&A interview with Kaiak. Kaiak is a Folk/Indie/ Pop duo, made from Emil and Marcos. They are both amazing musicians and songwriters and their dream is to become not famous but to become the band that people listen every day on their phones or radio. We discussed everything regarding music instruments, tunes, and funny stuff.

They have some amazing songs, but the ones I’m completely in love with are: ‘Who do you love?’ / ‘It must have been love’ / ‘Smell the coffee’. (well I love all of them but this are my 3 fav tops)

Let’s see what the guys had to say:

Andreea: When and why did you start playing?
Emil: I started developing an interest in singing when I was just 5 years old. My dad was in theater and singing on a hobby level. So I got inspired and learned quickly. I got my first guitar when I was 8 years.
Marcos: I started playing guitar when I was 6 but by the time I was 8 piano took over.
Andreea: Which instruments do you play?
Emil: My voice is my main instrument, but I also play the guitar and can goof around on the piano from time to time.
Marcos: Piano & Vocals / Ok: Bass, Guitar, Drums, Percussion / Bad: Violin / Terrible: Trumpet
Andreea: What was the first tune(s) you learned?
Emil: Wow, that’s a hard one, but my first performance was when I was 6 years old. I had a big choir behind me and sang a song called ”Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream” in Swedish.
Marcos: A Spanish flamenco tune (it was just one chord)
Andreea: What are the five things you can’t live without?
Emil: My family, my friends, music, my success dreams and coffee (I tried those ones and it didn’t go well) 😉
Marcos: My family, Music, Laughter, Sports & Dreaming Big
Andreea: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?
Emil: ”You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk” and ”The worst thing you can get is a no”
Marcos: Never give up, keep on dreaming and remember to Relax!
Andreea: Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?
Emil: There are many, Marcos is one of them. Right now one of my biggest influences is Chris Stapelton. And I have always been inspired by Freddy Mercurys stage language.
Marcos: Pianist Herbie Hancock – he’s a true icon of modern music. He’s a master of exploration music and genres while maintaining his unmistakable voice.
Andreea: Ten years from now you will be….
Emil: Happy, healthy and of course out touring World Wide with Kaiak
Marcos: Ten years from now you will be….alive first and foremost. Then touring the world with Kaiak of course.
Andreea: Can you remember the first time you wrote a song?
Emil: Actually yes, my first song I wrote was in middle high with my band back then named ”The Oddity” and the song was called ”Road Metal”
Marcos: Yes, I was 7 years old and I wrote a song called ”Splash”. It was pretty lousy, but my teachers forced me to play it in front of the whole school.
Andreea: Do you ever get nervous?
Emil: Oh yes! Not when I’m on stage, that’s where I’m most confident. But in situations when I don’t feel prepared or in control.
Marcos: Hardly. Well, at least not ”blackout” nervous as got when I was younger.
Andreea: What kind of things inspires you to write?
Emil: Life overall, everything around. Like family, friends or just something you hear. Other people’s music inspires me a lot too.
Marcos: Change. Moving around. Going places. People.
Andreea: What’s your favorite place to eat?
Emil: Anywhere that has Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, and gravy. (A typical Swedish dish) maybe Café Viskan in Borås where I live.
Marcos: Syrian Food, a place called ”Miro” in my hometown.
Andreea: Do you have any pets?
Emil: No
Marcos: No, but I have 3 children. I use them as pets every day. 🙂
Andreea: What’s your bad quality?
Emil: Haha, that depends on who you ask. But I know one, I’m not good at just relaxing and taking it easy for too long. I need to do something creative so my skin doesn’t itch.
Marcos: There are so many… I have a lot of fears & I’m lazy (with doing boring things)
Andreea: How much do you practice singing/playing instruments a week?
Emil: Not that much, but I try to go to the studio almost every day, and when I’m there I practice at the same time as I write and record.
Marcos: For 15 years I practiced 6-8 hours a day, but now only 1 hour per day.
Andreea: What’s next?
Emil: Right now we are working on our new album, with our own songs. When it’s time, we will release one song a month until the whole album is out in May 2020. And hopefully, we’ll go out and perform quite a bit too.
Marcos: Moving forward with Kaiak, making lots of new music. Focus on having fun!

I hope you guys enjoyed the interview and go follow Kaiak Music! 100 % you will fall in love with them.
